October 31, 2008 | SEND TO A FRIEND | GET EARLY NOTICE OF THE HOTW Sarah Palin
Welcome back to the BuzzFlash GOP Hypocrite of the Week. According to a CNN headline on October 30, "Palin accuses Obama of ties to second 'radical professor.'" If we haven't heard enough of distinguished and tenured education professor at the University of Illinois, Bill Ayers, Caribou "Joe McCarthy" Barbie is now joining her estranged running mate, John McCain, in trying to besmirch Barack Obama for knowing former University of Chicago professor (now at Columbia University) Rashid Khalidi. Okay, let's start with the fact that "John McCain served as chairman of the International Republican Institute (IRI) during the 1990s that provided grants worth $500,000 to a Palestinian research organization that was co-founded by Khalidi," according to a number of sources. That kind of undercuts Palin's red meat demagoguery. But beyond all the Cold War notion of winning elections by accusing people of guilt by association (not that there is not any guilt here) -- not by their actions and record -- there is the deep and profound hypocrisy of Palin accusing anyone of being radical, considering her extremist religious beliefs and the long association of the Palins with the anti-U.S. Alaskan Independence Party (AIP). Obama may have brushed shoulders with people who have opinions that differ from those of some Americans, but the Palins have been deeply connected to people who desire to have Alaska secede from the United States. That is walking the walking of being a radical, not just shaking the hand of one. Obama has rejected the views that Palin claims are held by two people he has known, but Palin has embraced the religious fanaticism of the "Third Wave" fundamentalist sect and been a supporter of the AIP. (How much more un-American can you get than, as does the AIP, wanting to -- as the Confederate states did -- become an independent country?) And then there is Palin's "Third Wave" religious End-Times views in which she believes that she is a "prayer warrior" with the goal of turning the U.S. into a fanatical cult vision of what a "Christian nation" should look like, with non-believers damned by "God" and the state. So it takes a bit of gall to try to turn Obama from a U.S. Senator into a virtual terrorist, when Palin is actually the one "Palin" around with individuals and organizations that would undercut the Constitutional foundations of our nation. Remember our motto: So many Republican hypocrites, so little time. Catch up with you soon.
