EARLY NOTICE OF THE HOTW
George W. Bush
Welcome back to the BuzzFlash GOP Hypocrite of the Week.
As noted in a recent
Boston Globe article by Scott Lehigh, George W.
Bush does not lack in irony -- or hypocrisy for that matter.
Lehigh speaks of a recent commencement address by Bush:
How else could he go to Furman University on Saturday
and celebrate his time-tested -- and now, time-graded and time-failed
--
theme of personal responsibility? Unless, that is, he intended to offer
himself as a counter-example to the idealistic young collegians.
In his address, the president highlighted some important truths. Like,
say, this: "You have responsibilities to your fellow citizens,
your country, your family, and yourself." And this: "A culture
of responsibility means being accountable to your families and to yourself."
…
.But here's what took the commencement cake: Bush's warning to graduates
to avoid amassing too much debt.
"You can strengthen our country by showing fiscal discipline in
your lives," he said. "It may sound funny coming from a visitor
from Washington, D.C., but it's important to your futures and the future
of our country."
Although that quote suggests the president has some inkling that he's
an unlikely messenger on this topic, it didn't keep him from offering
this counsel: "My advice to you is not to dig a financial hole
that you can't get out of. Live within your means."
There has been much debate over the last 8 years as to whether Bush
is a) stupid; b) wily like a fox; c) or stupider than stupid.
Bush's homily about responsibility, as Lehigh details, was so mind
bogglingly dishonest coming from someone who has violated his most
basic responsibilities to the American people over and over again.
Bush lecturing young adults on responsibility is like the happy hooker
promoting abstinence to teens.
Is Bush too dumb to understand how out of touch with reality he is,
or just a crafty con artist?
In the end, whichever it is, we have suffered enough. The only responsible
thing to do is show him the door as quickly as possible.
Once again, we present the BuzzFlash GOP Hypocrite of the Week Award
to George W. Bush.
Remember our motto: So many Republican hypocrites, so little time.
Catch up with you soon.
